Everybody usually calls me “The Sea Witch” representing arrogant and great person.

ผู้คนเรียกข้าว่า ‘แม่มดแห่งท้องทะเล’ ผู้ซึ่งหยิ่งผยองและน่าเกรงขาม 

The power of my magic made them afraid of, and I was similar in sinfulness. When anyone mentioned “the sea witch”, these marine animals felt frightened and had to conceal.

ด้วยอำนาจเวทมนตร์ของข้าทำให้พวกเขาเกรงกลัว ข้าเป็นความชั่วร้ายที่เหล่าสัตว์ทะเลต้องหลบซ่อนเพียงแค่เอ่ยคำว่า ‘แม่มดแห่งท้องทะเล’ ออกมา 

However, no one wanted to acknowledge or recognize the true story.

แต่ทว่าเรื่องราวที่แท้จริงนั้นกลับไม่มีใครอยากรับรู้หรือยอมรับมันเลยสักตน

“I am the sea witch who was born by a blessing from the sea.”

ตัวของข้าผู้เป็นแม่มดแห่งท้องทะเลเกิดมาจาก ‘พรของทะเล’ 

What was it? Was it the supernatural power? Actually, it was the most powerful thing in the marine world that has been dwelling in me. It was consisted of many things such as entire powers of the marine, including magical currents from god of the sea. 

Also, the power of life from all kinds of sea creatures being dead or alive as well as power of waves being deepest and shallowest in the ocean world were totally gathered and condensed to be my genuine identity. 

It took several thousand years to be completed as mine.

ถ้าหากถามว่ามันคืออะไร ? มันก็คือพลังทุกสิ่งทุกอย่างในทะเลแห่งนี้ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นกระแสเวทมนตร์จากเทพแห่งทะเล พลังชีวิตจากสัตว์ใหญ่น้อยทั้งเป็นและตาย รวมถึงมวลพลังคลื่นทั้งบนทะเลหรือส่วนที่ลึกที่สุด ทุกอย่างใช้เวลารวมตัวกันนับหลายพันปีก่อนจะควบแน่นและกลายเป็นตัวข้าขึ้นมา 

Even though it took me for a while, 

I woke up with extreme super power and ultimate vigorousness. Anyway, this powerful action was disadvantageous and inferior to only Goddess of the sea.

แม้ว่าจะกินเวลาไปบ้างแต่เมื่อตื่นขึ้นมาก็เต็มไปด้วยฤทธิ์อำนาจ จะเป็นรองก็เพียงแค่เทพเจ้าแห่งท้องทะเลเท่านั้น

Even if my physical body would be the same as normal human, I had some animal body parts with my own body. I felt never pessimistic about them entirely. Likewise, I was also proud of them.

แม้จะมีรูปร่างเหมือนมนุษย์แต่ก็ยังมีชิ้นส่วนของสัตว์ทะเลหลาย ๆ ชนิดอยู่บนตัวแต่ข้ากลับไม่รู้สึกมีความคิดในแง่ลบกับพวกมันแม้แต่น้อย หนำซ้ำยังภาคภูมิใจกับสิ่งที่ตัวเองเป็น

Mainly due to in the fact that I was able to use my miraculous magic to camouflet or maintain secrecy myself, but I never did like that at all. Until one day I was necessary to use my magic to help a drown male human.

แม้จะใช้เวทมนตร์อำพรางได้แต่ข้าก็ไม่เคยคิดจะปิดบังพวกมันเอาไว้ จนกระทั่งวันหนึ่งเมื่อต้องช่วยเหลือมนุษย์จมน้ำคนหนึ่ง

  At that moment, a mermaid took a drown man to meet me. When I firstly saw him, I noticed he had been injured seriously by a sword. Besides, his symptom seemed to be going to reach the stage of the unconsciousness ,and I refused her to heal and take care of him because of not being able to count on possibility of precision of the magic. 

นางเงือกพาชายคนนั้นมาหาข้า เขาบาดเจ็บสาหัสจากคมดาบ ทั้งยังจมน้ำจนไม่แทบเหลือชีพจรอยู่แล้ว ในตอนแรกข้าปฏิเสธที่จะช่วยเสียงแข็งเพราะการใช้เวทมนตร์นั้นเป็นสิ่งที่คาดเดาไม่ได้

When that mermaid cried tears, hers became diamonds remarkably surprisingly. Furthermore, she begged and gave me her diamond tears several times until I felt extremely annoyed. After that I promised her that I would willingly help him. In fact, to acquire those diamonds could not cause using my magic to success at all. 

Only her true love satisfaction would be able to achieve this significant task.

แต่นางเงือกตนนั้นร่ำไห้แล้วเก็บน้ำตาที่กลายเป็นเพชรของตัวเองขอร้องจนข้ารำคาญ จึงรับปากยอมช่วยเหลือ แต่สิ่งที่เวทมนตร์ของข้าเรียกร้องกลับไม่ใช่น้ำตาเพชรเหล่านั้นของนางเงือก หากมันคือ ‘ความสมหวังในความรักของนาง’

Her face began obviously to be pale with being shocked when she knew what magic needed. Actually, there was one restriction of using the magic. It was that it needed to obtain or acquire one’s feeling love happiness and success for exchanging to its performance.

ใบหน้าของนางเงือกนั้นตกตะลึงจนหน้าซีดกับสิ่งที่เวทมนตร์ของข้าร้องขอ

All kinds of sea animals have never understood that my magic needed repayment every time. In fact, I did not set up or determine its requirement at all. My magic itself did and performed spontaneously

พวกบรรดาสัตว์ทะเลไม่เคยเข้าใจเลยว่าเวทมนตร์ของข้านั้น ต้องการสิ่งตอบแทนทุกครั้งที่ใช้และข้าก็ไม่เคยเป็นผู้กำหนดข้อเรียกร้องเหล่านั้นเอง เวทมนตร์ต่างหากล่ะที่ทำ

Specifically, this sorcery always seemed to request one thing that is to take out of intercessor’s ability, or take his or her happiness away from every begging of them in order to create new result or outcome instead. 

เวทมนตร์มักจะเรียกร้องสิ่งที่ดูเหมือนเกินตัวผู้ร้องขออยู่เสมอ หรือไม่พรากความสุขสมหวังในชีวิตอย่างหนึ่งของพวกเขาเพื่อสร้างความสมหวังให้กับอีกสิ่งที่ผู้ร้องขอต้องการในเวลานั้น ซึ่งแต่ละอย่างที่ร้องขอก็หนักหนาสาหัสเหลือเกิน

Because the magic could not be replaced by anything, it was called or named evil and also made everyone recognize me like that similarly. 

และเพราะมันทดแทนด้วยสิ่งอื่นไม่ได้เวทมนตร์ของข้าจึงถูกเรียกว่า ‘ความชั่วร้าย’ และนั่นทำให้ตัวของข้าถูกเข้าใจไปในเชิงนั้นด้วย

Especially my own introvert personality could cause others to judge me that I was conceited. Moreover, my majestic and dignified appearance made my real identity get concealed from. Until I looked pretty hopeless. 

ยิ่งการวางตัวไม่ให้ผู้ใดเข้าถึงง่าย ๆ ก็ทำให้ทุกคนคิดว่าข้าหยิ่งผยอง เมื่อบวกกับรูปลักษณ์อันงดงามน่าเกรงขามมันก็ยิ่งบดบังตัวตนที่แท้จริงของข้าโดยสิ้นเชิง จนข้านั้นสิ้นหวังกับเรื่องนี้แล้ว

According to condition of the magic, she had to send me her feeling love happiness and success involving him so that her requirement could be accomplished intentionally. At the beginning moment, the mermaid hesitated to give me her emotion of love satisfaction, but eventually she decided to give me this because of being in love with him.

After he had woken up in his recovery from illness or injury sustained, she made a wish on me she needed to obtain human legs for her walking. She would like a pair of legs in order that she would be and able to live appropriately with him everlastingly. Fortunately, the magic would like to gain only her voice for trading, so it meant she would definitely have to become mute.

นางเงือกนั้นลังเลในคราแรกแต่เพื่อหนุ่มชาวมนุษย์ที่นางแอบหลงรักมาเนิ่นนานจึงยินยอมมอบความสมหวังในความรักให้ นางนำเขาไปส่งบนชายฝั่งก่อนที่เขาจะฟื้นและหลังจากนั้นไม่กี่วัน นางก็ร้องขอขาของมนุษย์ให้กับนางเพื่อจะได้อยู่ใกล้ชิดกับคนที่รัก นับว่าโชคดีที่ในครั้งนี้เวทมนตร์ร้องขอเพียงเสียงของนาง

Shortly afterward a small sea turtle came to meet me for appealing for having parts of body like human legs. Even though at that day I was good in temper, I felt extremely bothered with its pestering. Therefore, I got it done unintentionally by using supernatural occult.  

หลังจากนั้นไม่นานเจ้าเต่าทะเลตัวน้อยจู่ ๆ ก็มาขอขามนุษย์กับข้า แม้มันจะเป็นวันที่ข้าอารมณ์ดี แต่เพราะเจ้าเต่าทะเลนั่นตื้อไม่เลิกจนข้ารำคาญจึงทำให้มันจบ ๆ ไปโดยไม่สนอะไรเสียด้วยซ้ำ

Then the sea turtle was aware that the ugliest and the most embarrassing thing in the marine world was to exchange to acquire a pair of awkward and stupid legs. They made it became weird marine creatures being mocked often. In my case, I just kept doing my job so that its desire would come true. That was it!

ภายหลังถึงได้รู้ว่าสิ่งที่มันต้องเสียคือ ‘การที่ต้องกลายเป็นตัวน่าเกลียดและอับอายมากที่สุดในท้องทะเล’ เพื่อแลกกับขางี่เง่าคู่หนึ่ง มันกลายเป็นสิ่งมีชีวิตประหลาด ไปไหนก็มีแต่โดนล้อเลียนจนข้าต้องส่ายหัว แต่ก็นะในเมื่อตัวของมันร้องขอ ข้าก็แค่ทำความปรารถนาเหล่านั้นให้เป็นจริงก็เท่านั้น

Finally, Unfortunately, she had a broken heart, including lovesickness when the man whom was fallen in love by her knew that she used to be a genuine mermaid before. Immediately, he started to rebuke her that she was actually cause of his legs replaced with her lower part of fish body.

Nevertheless, she thought she had rejected his accusation. Unfortunately, she could not explain how she used to save his life because of her mute. Besides, she would like to tell him having never taken his legs away from him entirely, but she did not do anything. Regrettably, what she received was his hatred, and he ordered to capture dead to her.

ทว่าท้ายที่สุดแล้วนางเงือกก็ต้องตรอมใจเมื่อชายที่ตนรักจับได้ว่านางคือเงือกและกล่าวหาว่านางเอาขาของเขาไปเป็นขาตัวเอง ตั้งแต่จบการรักษามนุษย์ผู้ชายผู้นั้นกลับมีท่อนล่างเป็นปลา แต่นางไม่สามารถพูดออกมาได้ว่าตัวเองเป็นคนช่วยชีวิตเขาเอาไว้หรือแม้แต่เรื่องขาที่ไม่ได้แย่งชิงมาจากตัวของชายหนุ่ม สิ่งที่นางเงือกได้รับคือความเกลียดชังฝังลึกจนอีกฝ่ายถึงกับออกคำสั่งให้จับตัวของนางมาฆ่าเสีย

Meanwhile, she cried, and ran desperately away. When she perceived that she was not able to exist in the ground or the world ocean, so she decided to commit suicide by jumping off the cliff. After doing that, her body became like bubbles dissipate.

นางเงือกนั้นวิ่งหนีเอาตัวรอดอย่างสุดชีวิตพลางร้องไห้ด้วยความเจ็บปวดอย่างที่สุด เมื่อไม่สามารถใช้ชีวิตอยู่บนโลกมนุษย์หรือแม้แต่กลับสู่ท้องทะเลได้ จึงโดดจากหน้าผาฆ่าตัวตายและกลายเป็นฟองอากาศสลายไป 

Actually, I expected that my magic giving her should be vanished with her death. On the other hand, the magic spontaneously turned to reach towards the sea turtle for dwelling in it instead of her, and made it become a genuine human that might not be perfect. This was because when it went swimming in the sea, its physical body would be transformed into half human and half turtle by the condition of the magic, including not be able to turn back to be the previous body at all.

แต่ทว่าเวทมนตร์ของข้าที่ควรจะสลายหลังจากที่นางตาย กลับวิ่งไปหาเจ้าเต่าทะเลจนมันกลายเป็นกลายเป็นมนุษย์ไปจริง ๆ แม้จะไม่สมบูรณ์ก็ตามเพราะเมื่อมันลงน้ำทะเลก็กลายเป็นมนุษย์ครึ่งเต่า แต่ตัวของมันไม่สามารถกลับเป็นแบบเดิมได้อีกแล้ว

Certainly, the miraculous magic had to be demanding exchange or trade as usual. In case of the sea turtle, exchange that it would obtain was to be like formal of an ordinary human death. It really meant that its life would be shortened since its life was the same as the average lifespan of a human.

“It is time for your adventure, and you had better escape and travel in the wide world.” I suggested to the sea turtle.

I thought it was such the best thing for it due to its hope fulfilled already. Likewise, I felt I was unnecessary to take responsibility what I did previously anymore, and not concerned with notice of any dishonor and shamefulness that I had always been blamed. By the way, I wished this sea turtle would never go swimming in the sea again. Otherwise, its physical body would illustrate to be like a strange creature having half human and half sea turtle owing to getting wet by sea water.

และแน่นอนว่าเวทมนตร์นั้นก็ร้องขอข้อแลกเปลี่ยนอีกตามเคย ‘การตายแบบมนุษย์’ คือสิ่งที่ถูกแลกเปลี่ยนไป เจ้าเต่าต้องมีอายุขัยอันแสนเหมือนกับมนุษย์สั้น

“ออกไปผจญภัยซะ” ข้าพูด 

แต่ไม่ว่าอย่างไรดูยังไงเจ้าเต่าก็สมหวังที่สุดในเรื่องนี้  แล้วข้าก็ไม่เห็นจำเป็นจะต้องรับผิดชอบกับสิ่งที่เวทมนตร์ของข้าก่อ ความอับอายที่มันเคยมีก็หมดสิ้นไป เพียงแค่มันตัดสินใจขึ้นฝั่งไปหาพวกมนุษย์ ขอแค่มันไม่โดนน้ำทะเลจนกลายเป็นมนุษย์ครึ่งเต่าก็ไม่น่าจะมีใครจับมันไปแสดงกองคาราวาน

In my case, I have been the sea witch who was labeled an evil as usual since then. Especially when both stories of the turtle and the mermaid were told throughout the entire marine world, all creatures of the sea seemed to hate me more. They had wicked intentions with me that they indeed wanted me to be showing my wickedness more obviously. Hence, this was their crucial chance to see and believe I was like that truly.

“Good luck little turtle! Take care of yourself.”

ส่วนข้าก็ยังคงเป็นแม่มดแห่งท้องทะเลที่ถูกตราหน้าว่าชั่วร้ายต่อไปเช่นเคย ยิ่งมีเรื่องของนางเงือกกับเจ้าเต่าก็ยิ่งเพิ่มพูนความรู้สึกของพวกสัตว์ทะเลให้เกลียดชังในตัวข้ามากขึ้น 

ในเมื่อพวกเขาดูอยากให้ข้าเป็น ‘ความชั่วร้าย’ หนักหนา งั้นนี่ก็เป็นโอกาสที่จะได้เป็นในสิ่งที่พวกเจ้าอยากให้ข้าเป็นมาตลอดแล้ว

โชคดีนะเจ้าเต่า รับผิดชอบตัวเองดี ๆ ด้วยแล้วกันนะ

Some of them have six petals as well as there have been several legends that tell and illustrate involving miracles, women ,and spirit etc. Still, no body knows that which legend is real one.

แมกโนเลีย… ดอกไม้ที่มีกลิ่นอันหอมละมุนอันเป็นเอกลักษณ์ บางก็มีสีขาว บ้างก็มีสีม่วง บ้างก็มีหกกลีบ และมีตำนานเล่าขานอันหลากหลายเป็นเรื่องราวเกี่ยวกับปาฎิหารย์ หญิงสาว จิตวิญญาณ และอีกมากมาย ทว่าไม่มีใครรู้ว่าตำนานไหนคือเรื่องจริงกันแน่

Nevertheless, there is one legend that has been forgotten. This is concerning flowers and meteor. It’s story is shown a wandering young man selecting to protect Magnolia.

แต่มีตำนานบทหนึ่งได้ถูกลืมไปนานแสนนานแล้วเกี่ยวกับดอกไม้และดาวตก มันคือเรื่องราวของชายหนุ่มพเนจรผู้หนึ่งที่เลือกจะปกป้องต้นแมกโนเลีย

Every full moon night ,the moon was in the highest point. It seemed to have meteor happening often. Their size was noticeably equal to a cereal. Moreover, it was believed that when meteor reaching the earth, it would become Magnolia that was thrived every time and everywhere.

ในทุกคืนที่มีพระจันทร์เต็มดวงลอยขึ้นสูงที่สุดมักจะมีดาวตกอยู่เสมอ ๆ มันมีขนาดเท่ากับเมล็ดพืช แต่เมื่อมันตกที่ใดตรงนั้นมักจะมีต้นแมกโนเลียเกิดขึ้นทุกครั้ง

Magnolia tree smelled so good around area while young woman who was not a human or an angel was appearing unexpectedly.

ต้นแมกโนเลียส่งกลิ่นหอมละมุนไปทั่วบริเวณ พร้อมทั้งการปรากฎตัวขึ้นของหญิงสาวนางหนึ่ง นางนั้นไม่ใช่มนุษย์ ไม่ใช่นางไม้ และไม่ใช่สิ่งที่ควรจะปรากฎบนโลกใบนี้

In fact, she was pure spirit from the sky which was so far away. Also, once upon a time the sky used to be the place that when humans died ,he or she would return to be stars there before falling to be humans again.

ทว่านางคือจิตวิญญาณอันบริสุทธิ์จากฟากฟ้าไกล ที่ครั้งหนึ่งนั้นเคยเป็นมนุษย์แต่เมื่อตายไปกลับเกิดเป็นดวงดาวก่อนจะตกลงมาอีกครั้ง และรอเวลาหวนกลับคืนสู่ท้องฟ้าอีกครา

If most of the humans never realized the truth, they would burn and destroy Magnolia trees because they believed that those trees were like evil incarnate who deceived and became soul-sucking humans awfully.

หากมนุษย์ส่วนใหญ่ไม่เคยรับรู้ถึงความจริงในข้อนี้ต่างเผาทำลายต้นแมกโนเลียพราะเชื่อว่ามันคือร่างจำแลงปีศาจที่ล่อลวงมนุษย์เพื่อสูบกินพลังชีวิตของพวกเขา

“You look up to the sky again at this night.” A young man kept an eye on a young woman who was lost deep in thought and sitting on the branch of the tree located nearly him. Obviously, she had viridian hair as well as brown eyes. Surprisingly, her complexion seen was similiar to scale. When we reconsidered that thing, it seemed like wood pulp that was exactly skin removed from the previous nice and tender skin.

“ท่านมองท้องฟ้าอีกแล้วนะในค่ำคืนนี้” ชายหนุ่มเฝ้ามองหญิงสาวนั่งเหม่อบนกิ่งไม้ไม่ไกล นางผมสีเขียวน้ำทะเล ดวงตาสีน้ำตาล ผิวของนางโผล่พ้นเสื้อผ้าดูเหมือนกับเกล็ดแต่หากมองอีกครั้งมันคือเยื่อไม้ที่ลอกออกมาจากผิวที่เคยเนียนละเอียดนั่น

She said it was a procedure which must be occurred before going back to the sky, and he was the one who has known all of the truth. Hence, he had to keep protecting her from other humans with his full effort.

นางบอกว่ามันคือกระบวนการจะต้องเกิดขึ้นก่อนได้กลับไปยังฟากฟ้า และเขาเองคือผู้รู้ความจริงทุกอย่าง จึงพยายามปกป้องนางจากมนุษย์คนอื่นอย่างสุดความสามารถ

“We are going to return there, and it is the last night.” She said. The young woman was floating toward the front of his face gently with her exotic and sweet perfume. In the other hand, this didn’t make him uncomfortable at all. However, he felt as if he were extremely touched with her genuine and pure smile at that moment.

‘เรากำลังจะได้กลับไปแล้วน่ะสิ’ หญิงสาวว่า ‘ค่ำคืนนี้เป็นค่ำคืนสุดท้าย’ หญิงสาวลอยมาจากต้นไม้ลงมาตรงหน้าของชายหนุ่มอย่างนุ่มนวล กลิ่นหอมละมุนลอยแตะจมูกแต่กลับไม่ได้ทำให้รู้สึกอึดอัดเลยสักนิด ตรงกันข้ามเขากลับรู้สึกถึงความบริสุทธิ์ของมันเหมือนกับรอยยิ้มของนางในตอนนี้

Would you be lonely when I am gone? “Not at all” the young man replied gently. Then he glanced at villagers coming and carrying torches around beneath the mountain. He guessed they were arriving to fall the tree. “ Anyway, I feel terrible that purity is going to be destroyed by fear, ignorance ;of course, including inanity. You are too much naive, even though you used to be human before.” After that, he drew his sword to protect her ,but she grabbed and held his hand firmly. “I do no want you to fight with them.” “But…” She said.

‘ไม่มีข้าแล้วเจ้าจะเหงาหรือเปล่า ?’

“ไม่”

ชายหนุ่มตอบเรียบ ๆ ก่อนจะมองเห็นคบเพลิงของพวกชาวบ้านด้านล่างภูเขา พวกเขากำลังขึ้นมาเพื่อทำลายต้นไม้

“แต่จะรู้สึกแย่หากสิ่งที่บริสุทธิ์ถูกทำลายด้วยความกลัว ความไม่รู้ ใช่ รวมถึงความโง่งมด้วย เจ้าน่ะไร้เดียงสาเกินไปทั้ง ๆ ที่เคยเป็นมนุษย์แท้ ๆ”

ชายหนุ่มชักดาบออกมาเพื่อเตรียมพร้อมปกป้องแต่หญิงสาวกลับสัมผัสมือเขาเข้าไว้

‘ข้าไม่ได้อยากให้เกิดการฆ่าฟัน’

“แต่…”

It seemed like a witless action that the young woman marched to the folk bravely. Then all people stopped walking to her immediately when they saw her. Afterward she started mentioning without hesitation.

หญิงสาวเดินไปข้างหน้าอย่างกล้าหาญแม้จะดูเป็นการกระทำอันโง่เขลา พวกชาวบ้านหยุดเดินทันทีเมื่อเห็นนาง หลังจากนั้นหญิงสาวก็เริ่มเอ่ยขึ้น

“I am not a devil, but I am just a spirit that is in the cycle. I just fell down from the sky, and I will not hurt anybody on purpose.”

‘ข้าไม่ใช่ปีศาจหรอกนะเป็นแค่จิตวิญญาณที่มีวัฏจักรเท่านั้น ข้าเป็นแค่ตกลงมาจากฟากฟ้าแต่ไม่มีเจตนาอันเลวร้าย…

’ However, they did not accept what she expressed entirely. They gathered together and started arriving at her by carrying torches , spades and shovels. Suddenly, the young man decided to parry with his sword, and pushed forward someone to fall out.

ทว่าพวกชาวบ้านไม่มีใครฟัง พวกเขากรูเข้ามาพร้อมกับคบเพลิงรวมถึงเสียมและพลั่วในมือ ชายหนุ่มใช้ดาบปัดป้องแล้วดันพวกเขาออกไปจากตัวของนาง จนคนด้านหน้าล้มลง

“ You are so pure and naive that you are not supposed to live in this nasty world! These people never listen at all! You had better go back to the heaven right now!”

He said. “เจ้าบริสุทธิ์เกินไปที่จะอยู่ในโลกโสมมแห่งนี้นะ ! คนพวกนี้มันไม่เคยฟังอะไรทั้งนั้นหรอก ! เจ้าน่ะควรจะกลับไปบนฟ้าได้แล้ว !”

Finally, everything could not be changed or better entirely. Also, what she could do was only being depressed and disappointed. At that moment, she transformed herself to become a shining globe and she flew high up to the sky that was so far away.

Sumire Naoto wandered through the hallways, none of her friends had shown up for school and she was confused as to why. Everything had been fine the day before, she had been texting back and forth with them on group chats and they had all seemed perfectly happy. Her phone pinged and she looked at the text that had popped up on her screen with tired eyes.

Her heart was pounding incessantly, she almost felt it reverberating through her bones as she practically sprinted to the auditorium. Nobody was there, it was pitch black and completely terrifying. She felt as if she had walked into her own personal horror movie. The screen in front of her suddenly lit up and a deep, robotic voice rang out over the speakers.

“My name is Ace and you have betrayed me. You will pay.” The speakers cut off and Sumire was left on her own trembling. Where were her friends? And what the hell did she have to do to get her them back? Suddenly, the door behind her opened and she spun- she hadn’t realised she had been crying until just now. Her boyfriend walked through the doors-his name was Junji.

Junji grabbed her and pulled her into a tight embrace.

“Are you okay?” He asked, planting a delicate kiss on her forehead.

“Someone has taken my friends Junji, I need to get them back, I need to help get them back.” Junji shushed her and nodded as she spoke. They walked from the auditorium and went to their first class together-English. As soon as she walked in, she locked eyes with her ex boyfriend-Katsu. She took a deep breath and quickly averted her gaze, she had hooked up with him last summer and cheated on Junji, they had agreed to keep it a secret. He looked rather sweaty, as if he had been running somewhere. She didn’t know who Ace was but they had to be somebody in the school…she thought it might have been him, he had every reason to hate her but she wasn’t sure he was intelligent enough to pull such a massive scheme off.

English was long, she just wanted to get the day over with so she could figure out who the hell had taken her friends, and who was threatening her. She sat in biology and surveyed the room, looking for more people that could be working against her. She came to the conclusion that it could have been her two friends-Maya and Chloe. They had been best friends for years, but both of the girls were remarkably jealous of Sumire…it could be anyone, it seemed almost impossible to pick out a suspect from the sea of students. Everybody seemed to have a motive now she was really thinking about it.

“Are you okay?” Maya asked, it shouldn’t have been suspicious but it was, the way she asked…it was almost as if she could tell that something was wrong with Sumire.

“You look pale.” Added Chloe, holding the back of her hand to Sumire’s head. “Almost like you’ve seen a ghost.” Sumire took a deep breath and faked it as best as she could, hanging out with these two girls made her miss her other friends even more- Penny and Liberty were the two girls that had been taken, they were nothing like Maya and Chloe. They were genuine and she knew they would always be there for her…her phone went off in biology and she looked down at it to see another text message from the dreaded Ace.

“Sumire?” She looked over at him and straight away the flood gates opened.

“I don’t know what to do.” She said.

“It’s okay my love, Ace will leave you alone.” Her heart stopped, her breath hitched in her throat. She hadn’t told Junji his name and she hadn’t told him about the texts…now she thought about it, she hadn’t told him that she was in the auditorium this morning, so how did he know where to find her? She took a step back and stared at him, her cheeks turning a deep red.

“Can I use your phone for a moment?” She asked, he looked hesitant but he handed it over to her nonetheless, she was trying to act as normal as possible so he didn’t suspect that she knew he was hiding something. She went onto his phone and was instantly drawn to the CCTV app, she clicked on it and saw her friends locked in a room…the storage room downstairs. She went off the app and handed it to him. Without another word, she ran down the stairs, trying her hardest to outrun Junji who was right behind her. She unlocked the storage room and burst inside to see her two friends. They ran over to her and wrapped their arms around her shoulders.

“You figured it out.” Junji said.

“Why? Why would you do this?” Cried Sumire, shouting now.

“You cheated on me!” She stood still in her tracks, he knew…he walked up to her, anger filling his eyes, he struck her across the face and she fell to the floor. Just as she fell, she saw Junji get yanked to the floor. Behind him, was Katsu. He dragged the three girls out of the room and locked Junji in. As Sumire stared up at him ,she realised she had loved him all along, she pulled his face down to meet hers and kissed him- passionate and deep.
